Biennial of Contemporary Cuban Ceramics 2022 convened

The National Museum of Contemporary Cuban Ceramics of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana convenes the Biennial of Contemporary Cuban Ceramics, in its 2022 edition.

With the aim of continuing to enhance the expressive, aesthetic, formal and conceptual possibilities of the event, this edition is committed to the coherent coexistence of all its typological-creative variants, also from the plurality of discourses.

The contest has the support of the project "Promoting the sociocultural inclusion of women in the Historic Center of Old Havana, through the management of cultural heritage and psychosocial care with a gender perspective", developed jointly with KCD ONGD and the Basque Agency for Development Cooperation (AVCD).

Habana Cultural informs that, with a free theme, all Cuban creators resident or not in Cuba can participate in the event, who can present a proposal in each of the four participation categories.

The so-called Vessels or containers, recalls the origin of a discipline that had its genesis in the vessel. This modality includes the single Vessel section, and another for vessel sets and installations.

For its part, Murals or ceramic panels invites the presentation of works conceived based on tiles or slabs.

Sculptures and ceramic installations, and the so-called "containers" from the sense of packaging, both conceptually and in their respective plastic expression, complete the categories to compete.

The contest rules specify that the works must be conceived in ceramic techniques, and that any incorporation of other materials or techniques must be consulted, during the elaboration period, with the direction of the Museum.

Similarly, any project that exceeds a meter and a half in height, width or depth also needs to be consulted prior to its execution.

Regardless of the contestant categories, the delivery of two distinctions and the mentions that the jury deems appropriate have been planned.

The first distinction consists of a Scholarship for artistic creation sponsored by the Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana. Said recognition will be granted to the author of a work, of very notable merits, in any of the typological variants to compete. In this case, the creator must present his personal exhibition the year after obtaining this award.

The Alfredo Sosabravo Prize, consisting of an original by that artist donated by its author, is the second planned distinction.

The deadline for the delivery of the works will expire on November 30, 2022.
