Elaine Hernández, First Degree specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine and Internal Medicine, commented to this medium that the procedure included several steps: first, taking the pressure in a conventional way for each volunteer, with a mercury sphygmomanometer and a double stethoscope used by two doctors at the same time, who took several shots, interspersing those of the digital device.

She specifies that in order to check whether the measurements of the latter were accurate, they were compared with those taken using the conventional method.

Regarding the benefits that this exercise brings to the island, Jorge Enrique Aguiar, a First Degree specialist in Cardiology, stated: “Cuba has the possibility of developing and putting into practice an automatic digital manometer, which will help to have a necessary means for the control of chronic and non-chronic diseases”.

The PAHO report highlights that such action, included within the work related to the HEARTS project, will allow for a device validated according to international standards that will favor the quality of care for hypertensive patients.
