Cuba celebrates the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day this May 17

World Telecommunications and Information Society Day is celebrated every May 17. The commemoration aims to increase the awareness of the world community about the use of the Internet and other technologies, and reduce the digital gaps in the world's societies and economies.

Cuba has scientific-technological development focused on social transformation as a priority. In this sense, the alliances with universities and other scientific centers, as well as the development of the technological infrastructure constitute vital axes to be able to advance in the process of computerization of society.

The Antillean island arrives on this World Telecommunications Day with more than 7 million users connected to Internet services, advances in areas such as electronic commerce, mobile applications, development of national websites, the creation of technology parks and MSMEs, which offer the national and foreign public guarantees in the work with communication and information.

Promoting knowledge, improvement and the possibility of expanding computer services and other activities of info-communicational interest are pillars that support government management in the country and are the basis for a society in constant dialogue with the new challenges imposed by digital transformation in The 21st century.
