1907.   Cuban writer, poet and translator Francisco Sellén dies in Havana.

Throughout his life he collaborated with numerous journalistic publications and fought for the independence of Cuba as a member of the Reformist Party. Later in exile he helped with the foundation, together with José Martí, of the Cuban Revolutionary Party. 

Together with his brother Antonio Sellen, he founded the "Heraldo Cubano", a bilingual Spanish-English newspaper.

In his creative work, his works reflected his love for Cuba and for the cause of its liberation from Spanish colonial rule. An example of them is his poem entitled Independencia o Muerte (Independence or Death).

He was born in the city of Santiago de Cuba on October 10, 1836.

 

2002. Commander in Chief Fidel Castro inaugurates the Educational Channel in Havana.

It has a national scope and its objective is to broadcast television programs covering the curricula of the national education system. It also directs its programming to the elevation of the general and integral culture of the entire population. The channel also produces program packages for foreign countries and other educational institutions in the country.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, and with students staying at home, it played an important role by broadcasting live orientation classes and preparation for the expiration of the school year.
