Havana anniversaries. May 4th

1958.  The Empresa Antillana de Acero, located in the municipality of Cotorro, in the province of Havana, produces the first casting in its furnaces. Several years later, on December 26, 1974, with the merger of several entities, such as the Center for Automotive Technical Services, the National Mechanization Directorate and the Machinery Construction Company, the José Martí Steel Company was created.

Among its main products are corrugated steel bars, steel billets, carbon steel, steel castings and cast iron parts.

More than two thousand workers are employed in this center.

1964. On the initiative of Celia Sánchez Manduley, a great revolutionary fighter and leader, the Office of Historical Affairs of Cuba is created in Havana.

The effort to safeguard the historical memory of the insurrectional struggle was a constant in Celia's work, preserving every note, letter, order or resolution. This constituted the first steps to later create the Office. The institution's archives are divided into printed documentation, a photo library, a sound archive, an audiovisual archive and a deposit of museum objects, as well as a video library and a newspaper and periodicals library. The restoration and conservation of historical documents is one of the most important tasks of the Office.
