New inspection body emerges in Havana to fight against illegalities
A new inspection body is emerging in Havana, taking into account the dissatisfaction shown by the population with the work carried out by the former Supervision and Control Directorate, Osvaldo Rivalta Torres, director of the Inspection Directorate in the capital, told the press.
According to Rivalta, there were some negative incidents and extraordinary events which caused the work of the supervisors to lose credibility.
For this reason, he explained, the Provincial and Municipal Inspection Directorate was created with the mission of controlling the performance of the inspectors, both in the municipalities and in the province.
After the purging process, those who had the conditions to work were kept in their jobs and almost 150 new workers graduated from the Inspection School, located in the Centro Habana municipality, in Barcelona and Águila, Rivalta Torres commented.
Regarding the protection of the dismissed workers of the former Direction of Supervision and Control, he said that they were offered other employment opportunities in sectors unrelated to inspection, "there are those who did not want to continue, some opted for self-employment and others do not have any labor link now", he said.
The new tasks to be assumed by the recently created bodies are the confrontation of non-compliance in the exercise of self-employed activities and the new forms of non-state management.
Also included are the confrontation of illegalities committed on public roads, actions that violate the care of public ornament, communal hygiene, water resources, retail prices, regulations on aqueducts and sewage and others ordered by the Governor of Havana, as well as by the mayors of the municipalities.
In order to carry out the confrontation - Osvaldo Rivalta explained - the new inspectors will have the obligation to carry the card that accredits them as such, the work order specifying the place where they will carry out their work, the inspector's vest (which will undergo modifications), their identity card, as well as other documents that will serve them as advice at the time of applying the current contraventions so that they can show the violators which decree-law and article they are violating.
However, he stressed that on the way to their work the inspectors, who will work in duo, have every right and obligation to confront the violations they find on their way.
However, when they go to a specific center, they must carry their ID card and the order for that place signed by the director of inspection, at the municipal or provincial level, as the case may be.
The call to join the new inspection corps in Havana is open, those interested should contact the municipal directorates, bearing in mind that they must not have a criminal record and must be people with social recognition and prestige among the population.
