The Alejo Carpentier Municipal Library was inaugurated this Friday at the headquarters of the Casa de Cultura on Calzada and 8, located in the capital's Vedado district, as part of the activities of the Havana International Book Fair.

At the opening ceremony, which was attended by intellectuals, journalists and other personalities, Harold Vergara, director of Culture of Plaza de la Revolución, said it is an honor to have this space in a building that turns 80 years old in May, and is considered the first circulating public library that provides community services for adults and children.

For her part, the president of the Alejo Carpentier Foundation, Dr. Graziella Pogolotti, highlighted the value of the funds collected by Lilia Esteban, Carpentier's widow, for the materialization of this dream, and pointed out that in this context, the work of the Library will be devoted to the work of the community, She pointed out that in this context, the work of the Library will be focused on the work of the community, attending to all age groups, particularly children and young people, in order to stimulate, promote and develop reading habits, in accordance with the principles of a cultural policy inaugurated by the Cuban Revolution.

Referring to the institution, Pogolotti said: "With this action, the Alejo Carpentier Foundation fulfills its objectives, in addition to researching, disseminating and stimulating the writer's work, our raison d'être lies in contributing to the dissemination and revitalization of the national culture".
