Russia donates to Cuba more than 19 thousand tons of wheat

A donation of 19 526 tons of wheat was delivered by the Government of the Federation of Russia to Cuba this Monday, in Havana.

Cubadebate reports that the donation is valued in more than 6 000 000 dollars and gives continuity to the solidarity aid the Russian nation has been offering  to support the plan of prevention and control of SARS-COV2, coronavirus that cause Covid-19 disease.

Lázara Mercedes López Acea, first deputy minister of Food Industry(MINAL), thanked the gesture in the oficial ceremony of delivery of the donation. ¨This is a new expression of the historical and political  ties  that unite us , based in friendship and mutual support between Cuba and the Federation of Russia, stressed  Acea.

The first vice-minister recalled how challenging these last years have been for both nations, in a context-she said- ¨framed by the fight against the pandemic and its impact in the world economy¨.

López Acea also thanked Russia and the World Food Program for its endevour and support, highly valued by the Cuban authorities.

The first vice-minister  reiterated the interest of the Cuban government of strengthening the bilateral relationship of  cooperation agreed-assured- ¨the exercise of solidarity, international cooperation and multilateralism constutite a path tours a better world , more righteous, equitable and sustainable¨.

The Russian ambassador in Cuba, Andrei Guskov, reaffirmed Moscow´s intentions to continue expanding the collaboration with the island.

This humanitarian cargo was sent to the island by choice of the Federation of Russia (…)¨we will continue helping Cuban people, which in time of pandemic, still faces the ilegal and inhuman American blockade¨, meant  ambassador Guskov.

At the ceremony attended the first vice-minister of Foreign Trade, Ana Teresita González Fraga; the head of Europe and Canada of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gisela García Rivero; deputy director of Trading Policy with Europe of MINCEX, Nélida Guerra Moreira and the Counselor to  Russian Embassy in Cuba, Serguey Oboznov.

As part of the actions developed by the Russian government to support Cuban public health in the facing of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Caribbean nation  received in previous months, 83 tons of medicine, 170 tons of supplies , food and health equipment to save lives.

Cuba and Russia hold historic ties of brotherhood since the re-stablishment of the diplomatic nexus promoted by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz on May 8th, 1960. This agreement gets strengthened in fields such as the energy, trasport, computing , telecommunications and the pharmaceutical undustry.
