The president recalled on his Twitter account a phrase that Fidel said, in a speech given in the main act for the 10th anniversary of Girón ´s victory, on April 19th, 1971.

¨When we were fighting at the Moncada , the Revolution was fighting for specific goals but when weget to Girón, our troops went there to fight and die for the homeland whatever the price were for the socialism! ¨, pointed out the Head of State.

After the attack to the airports , the memorial for the victims and the statement of the socialist character of the Revolution, on April 17 ,1961 began the invasion , which pretended to facilitate an air-and sea landing to conquist an important beach area in the western province of Matanzas while setting a provisional government , previuosly designated by Washington.

The action made Operation Pluto possible, which had been approved by the American president Dwight D. Eisenhower and developed by brigada 2506 with 1500 operatives who departed from Nicaragua in five American war ships.

According  to witnesses´opinion, combats were bloody and the B-26 bombing deployed against the island were infamous and caused 150 deaths and multiple injured.

Cuban forces took 1200 war prisoners, most of them had been exiled from Cuba and on April 24th 1961 , president John F. Kenedy admitted the participation of his government in this actions, that has remained in history as the first defeat of the United States of America.
