Havana anniversaries. April 16.

1961.   At the intersection of 23rd and 12th Streets in Vedado, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro proclaims the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution, while speaking at the mourning farewell ceremony for the victims of the surprise attack against several Cuban airports carried out by planes from the United States the day before. Fidel pointed out: "...this is the socialist and democratic revolution of the humble, with the humble and for the humble".

The militiamen and soldiers, representatives of the working people, raising their rifles, approved the socialist character of the revolution. At that moment a decisive leap in the political consciousness of the people was taking place and it was the best tribute to the fallen for a more dignified future for the homeland.
