Havana Prosecutor's Office accountability to the people moves forward

The guests listened attentively to dissertations by Marta Vázquez Villar, Chief Provincial Prosecutor of the city, about actions taken in the last five years to improve the quality of the performance in acts of justice, attention to complaints and denunciations of the citizenship through different channels.

They learned how they reach vulnerable sectors to support them, especially grandparents' homes, homes for children without family support, homes for the elderly and other social centers, which are visited periodically.

They were informed about the development of tax audits, some of which are carried out as a result of complaints from the population, and the control measures applied.

Other topics discussed were professional improvement in view of the new legislation passed and strategies for adapting to the new structures of the municipal courts.

The deputies learned about the way in which they enforce the rights of the inmates and attend to their complaints, through frequent visits to penitentiary centers, or in offices close to the inmates.

During the meeting, they talked about the training of law students, their insertion in professional work, the intense work in the COVID-19 stage and the confrontation of ideological subversion, in defense of the rights and goods of society.

Special attention was paid to issues related to families, including active participation in debates on the Family Code Project in the capital's neighborhoods.

According to Virginia CosSantiesteban, Chief Prosecutor of the FPH's Organization and Planning Department, the purpose of these discussions is to give an overview of compliance with the recommendations made to the Prosecutor General's Office by the ANPP, during the most recent accountability, held in 2017.

He added that the exchange is part of a strategy developed in the last stage, which included tours by the deputies through the 15 municipalities, and soon the municipal chief prosecutors will render an account before the municipal assemblies of the People's Power.

He pointed out that these reviews reveal strengths and weaknesses, aimed at perfecting the agency's mission, achieving superior results and complying with the recommendations made by the parliament.
