From a young age she understood the need to fight to transform the existing situation in Cuba due to the existence of the dictatorial regime of Fulgencio Batista. When the University of Havana was closed, she moved to the province of Oriente where she continued her revolutionary activity. When persecuted by the regime's forces, she decided to go to the mountains and joined the ranks of the Rebel Army in the Sierra Maestra. She was assigned to a field hospital where she worked as a health worker. Later she was the founder and leader of the Mariana Grajales Platoon, composed entirely of a group of female combatants. After the revolutionary victory, she participated in the fulfillment of various tasks and responsibilities assigned to her.
