1908.  Rafael Angel Cowley Valdes - Machado dies in Havana.

He was born in Havana on February 28, 1837. He was part of an illustrious family of doctors. With a strong vocation for teaching, he dedicated himself to it at the University of Havana from a very young age. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery on September 6, 1858, as a Licentiate on October 20, 1859 and as a Doctor on January 30, 1861. He was one of the most eminent figures of Cuban medicine in the second half of the 19th century and first half of the 20th century.

 

1939.  Guillermo González Arocha dies in Havana.

He was born in the town of Regla, Havana, on June 25, 1868.  He studied high school at the San Carlos Seminary in Havana. He studied Theology and Canon Law and was ordained a priest.

From the beginning of the War of 1895, he was linked to the insurgent forces and was designated Sub Delegate of the province of Pinar del Rio, representing the Chief of the General Headquarters of the Sixth Corps. At the end of the war, he was awarded the title of Veteran and was considered a high officer of the Liberation Army. Years later, shortly before his death, he was decorated with the Grand Cross of Carlos Manuel Céspedes.
