Proposals for blind people in Havana at the International Book Fair Cuba 2022

The National Association of the Blind (ANCI) will have its usual space at the San Carlos de La Cabaña Fortress, from April 20 to 30, during the XXX edition of the International Book Fair FILCuba2022.

Tribuna de La Habana reports that for visually impaired people to enjoy the biggest festival of letters in Cuba, copies will be given away at stand C8-A to members of that Non-Governmental Organization, who are grateful for this inclusive proposal that was born in 2012 through a collaborative project with Handicap International, the Belgian Development Cooperation and the support of the Ministry of Labor and the Cuban Book Institute.

According to this media, the head of the Culture, Education and Public Relations department at the national ANCI, Carlos Ramirez, commented that books printed in the Braille system will be available for purchase, in addition to others in digital format and audiobooks.

The latter format includes the Family Code, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba and the organization's Bylaws, among others.

Frases del Apostol en décimas and La Santería en Cuba, among other requested titles, will also be delivered in Braille.

Each member of the organization can receive up to one copy printed in Braille, while there are no limits for audio and digital books, Ramírez told Tribuna.

In a flash memory or other support, according to Tribuna, the proposals conceived for this fair can be copied, which are also nourished by numerous titles published in previous events.

Carlos Ramirez explained that due to technical problems, the ANCI printing house was unable to prepare new titles; however, there will be children's stories, poetry, cookbooks, health books, novels and literature in general.

For his part, the Public Relations specialist of the national ANCI, Jorge Luis Cabrera, said that FILCuba is always an opportunity that motivates blind and low vision people to be active protagonists of the most important and transcendent event of the national publishing sphere.

The Book Fair has Mexico as guest of honor and Carilda Oliver Labra and Jesús Orta Ruíz (Indio Naborí) as honorees. It will feature a program of text presentations, colloquiums, concerts, tributes and award ceremonies.

Under the slogan Reading is Growing, the event is also dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the publication of the poem Ismaelillo, by José Martí, and the novel Cecilia Valdés o La Loma del Ángel, by Cirilo Villaverde.
