1961. The Unión de Pineros de Cuba, today the José Martí Pioneers Organization, is constituted.

Its main objective is to contribute to the formation of the youngest generations, instilling in them an interest in study, love for the homeland and for all the nations of the world. It trains children in the habit of work and social responsibility. It also works to create moral qualities such as a sense of honor, modesty, courage and camaraderie.

1962. Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro closes the First Congress of the Association of Young Rebels, an organization that from then on adopts the name of Union of Young Communists. He emphasizes the confidence of the Revolution and its leaders in the new generations.

He states: "To believe in the youth is to see in them, in addition to enthusiasm, capacity; in addition to energy, responsibility; in addition to youth, hardiness, heroism, character, will, love for the homeland, faith in the homeland, love for the Revolution, faith in the Revolution, self-confidence, deep conviction that the youth can, that the youth is capable, deep conviction that great tasks can be placed on the shoulders of the youth".
