Covid-19: Numbers rise, risk perception falls.

The states of opinion of the population point to a decrease in the perception of risk in the face of covid-19, which since March 2020 has caused the death of 8,509 people in Cuba.

This was warned by the member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, at the meeting of the Government Working Group for the confrontation of the pandemic, headed from the Palace of the Revolution by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The Head of Government said that there is an increase in some states of opinion regarding the fact that the perception of risk is decreasing and others are associated with the fact that the authorities at different levels of management are paying more attention to the economic and social activities of the territories than to the actual confrontation of the epidemic.

He said, that we have to maintain the established protocols and we have to raise this risk perception. We need to continue with the control over the confrontation and at the same time continue advancing in the economic and social activities of the country, warned Marrero Cruz.

In the last 14 days, informed the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, 10 035 positive cases were diagnosed. In that period, the highest incidence was concentrated in the provinces of Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila, Mayabeque, Las Tunas, Holguin and Matanzas.

The 957 cases reported this Saturday represent an increase of 14 % with respect to the previous day. The number of active patients is also growing: 3,780 patients with SARS-CoV-2 remain hospitalized, 75% of them at home.

In the intensive care wards, six people in critical condition and 21 in serious condition are being cared for. There was one death in the province of Guantánamo, 89 years old.

Portal Miranda pointed out that lethality in the country as a result of the epidemic has continued to decrease. In the current year, he said, 86 people have died, for a lethality rate of 0.16%. This indicator in March was 0.09%.

Regarding the vaccination process in Cuba, the Minister explained that 95.6% of the vaccinable population is fully immunized, while the booster dose is at 76.1%.

Regarding these issues, Marrero Cruz indicated to MINSAP to make a better coordination with the Health areas for the vaccination of children who are reaching two years of age, as well as with young people who reach 19 years of age and have been indicated for the booster.

Through videoconference, the authorities of all the provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud informed the country's leadership about the epidemiological situation of each territory: new cases, active cases, deaths, vaccinated people, among other indicators. President Díaz-Canel particularly alerted the governor of Ciego de Avila, since the province has five days with more than 100 positive cases per day, and the governor of Camagüey, which has seen an increase of 40 new cases from one day to the next.
