Havana Anniversaries. March 27th.

1922.   Antonio Zambrana Vázquez dies.

He was born on June 19, 1846 in Havana. He joined his former classmates from José de la Luz y Caballero's Colegio El Salvador, in the Galvanic expedition, led by Manuel de Quesada to the territory of Free Cuba in 1868. Incorporated to the Camagüeyan insurrectionary forces, he was a member of the Assembly of Representatives of the Center, as part of which he attended the historical meeting of April 10, 1869 and together with Ignacio Agramonte he wrote the text of the Constitution of Guáimaro.

He stood out as an orator. He belonged to the Autonomist Party and in 1887 he was a deputy to the Cortes.

 

1977. The outstanding journalist and writer Juan Marinello Vidaurreta dies in Havana.

He was born in the town of Jicotea, in the current province of Villa Clara, on November 2, 1898.

He had a very active political life. He founded and directed several publications, as well as collaborated with newspapers and magazines in Cuba and in different parts of the world. He held various responsibilities, among them, that of Rector of the University of Havana and Cuban Ambassador to Mexico and to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.
