Havana anniversaries. March 25, 1903.

1903.   Julio Antonio Mella is born in Havana.

At the University of Havana he begins to stand out for his revolutionary convictions. He quickly became a student leader due to his relevant merits and great qualities.

Through his initiative it was agreed to celebrate the First National Congress of Students. He later participated in the founding of the University Student Federation and the Anti-Imperialist League.

Mella was also a revolutionary fighter against the dictatorship of Gerardo Machado.

He was assassinated on January 10, 1929 in the capital of Mexico by elements at the service of the dictatorial regime existing in Cuba at that time.

1991.  The project to create a house in Havana to pay homage to Simón Bolívar, "The Liberator of the Americas", began to materialize when the Memory Box containing messages exchanged by the presidents of Cuba and Venezuela, copies of newspapers and coins of both countries, was placed on the façade of the building.

This institution was inaugurated on July 24, 1993, as a tribute to the 210th anniversary of Bolivar's birth.

It is housed in a stately 18th century mansion located on Mercaderes Street between Lamparilla and Obrapía, in La Habana Vieja.

The centerpiece of this house is the statue of Bolivar cast in bronze.

The center is used both for exhibits and for holding symposiums and courses related to the life and work of Simón Bolívar.
