1959.  The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry, commonly identified in our country as ICAIC, is created in Havana. Its founding president was Alfredo Guevara.

In its more than sixty years of existence, it is the main producer of feature films, documentaries and animated films in the country. Under its jurisdiction are the Cinemateca de Cuba, the Film Archives, film festivals, promotion and national and international distribution of Cuban cinema.

The main event sponsored by this institution is the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

1984.  The National Zoo is inaugurated in Havana.

It is located in an area of the Arroyo Naranjo municipality, with a very varied topography, which allows for the best conditioning of the animals according to their habitat. It is the center in charge of exhibiting representative animals of the native fauna and from other countries, as well as controlling protected or endangered species, carrying out research aimed at guaranteeing the reproduction and breeding in captivity of species of high value and orienting the population on the importance of fauna conservation.

It has an area of 340 hectares, in which thousands of plants are planted. This institution conducts important research on wildlife in general and also offers national and international training courses and organizes scientific events of the same magnitude.
