Havana anniversaries. March 17th.

1993.  Researcher and history professor Sergio Aguirre dies in Havana.

He was born in the Cuban capital on March 4, 1914. At a very young age he joined the Student Left Wing and the Communist Youth League, and in 1938, the Popular Socialist Party.

In 1941 he obtained a doctorate degree in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Havana and then for many years he worked as a professor of history and geography in several Havana high schools. He also worked as a professor at the University of Havana and was also director of the School of History of the great Cuban educational center. He was a member of the Cuban Society of Historical and International Studies and advisor to the then Institute of History of the Cuban Academy of Sciences.

 

2005.  Doctor in Medical Sciences Joaquín Pascual Gispert died in Havana.

He was born in the town of Colón, in the province of Matanzas, on April 10, 1913. He graduated as a doctor of medicine in 1941 from the University of Havana and spent the first years of his working life in his native land.

As a pediatrician, he has been considered the father of Cuban neuropediatrics. He made scientific contributions related to the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, inborn errors of metabolism, mental retardation, defectology and autism.

He made important contributions in the diagnosis of rare diseases, not described in the country. He published more than 40 national and international scientific papers and wrote three textbooks.
