Inició XII Coloquio Internacional de Musicología en Casa de Las Américas

The International Colloquium on Musicology began its sessions in Havana, convened by the cultural entity Casa de las Americas to discuss about the directions of the specialty in the continent.

With the program, the Manuel Galich hall of the institution will host a meeting on places, sociabilities and musical practices in South America, focusing on the domestic environment and scenarios.

The Brazilian Monica Vermes, the Uruguayan Marita Fornaro and Ana Lecueder, the Spanish Marcela González and the Argentinean Adriana Cerletti and Rosa Chaikho will participate in the panel.

A round table on race and culture will also take place during the day with the attendance of the researcher Leonardo Weisman from Argentina, Omar Abril from Guatemala and Miriam Escudero from Cuba.

At the same time, the Musicology Prize will be in session, which brings together 33 books by authors from 10 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as prestigious academics as evaluators.

In order to promote the debate, the knowledge exchange and the development of Latin American and the Caribbean music culture with excellent scholars of the subject, the event and the award become an opportunity for excellence, according to the organizers.

As the Mexican musicology Maria Luisa de la Garza said, it is convenient to celebrate the diversity on musicology and the opportunity to carry out this event in a complex context that, however, shows the vitality of the space and its acknowledgment in the continent.
