Cuba´s heroine Melba Hernandez is remembered.

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero remembered today the heroine of the Republic Melba Hernández and highlighted her participation in the revolutionary process of the island on the eighth anniversary of her death.

Through his official Twitter account, the head of the Government emphasized that she is an example of Cuban women ¨with an exceptional trajectory in the service of our country and our people¨.

He also emphasized Melba Hernandez´s involvement in the assault of the Moncada barrack, where she played a key role in the compilation and dissemination of the self- defense plea of the historic leader Fidel Castro Ruz known as La Historia me Absolverá.

The revolutionary was one of the first members of the movement led by Fidel Castro, with whom she coincided while studying law at the University of Havana and whom she would support in the struggle against the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista.

She participated in the preparations for the Gramma expedition.

On November 25, 1956, she bid farewell to the 82 combatants in the Port of Tuxpan, then returned to Cuba and joined the ranks of the rebel army in the Third Front Mario Muñoz Monroy under the command of Commander Juan Almeida.

After the Triumph of the Revolution in January 1959, she took on various responsibilities in the development of the solidarity movement and the foreign policy of the island.

She was Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam and Cambodia and director of the Center for Studies on Asia and Oceania.

Melba, as she was known by the people, was founder of the Cuban communist party, member of the Central Committee since its third congress and deputy to the national assembly of the people´s power(parliament) until her death.

She died surrounded by colleagues of struggle, family and friends in Havana on March 9, 2014 as a result of complications associated with diabetes mellitus, a disease she suffered for years.
