1990.  Orestes Urfé dies.

He was born in the town of Madruga on October 30th,1922.

His parents paved the way for his music development and studied in his home town. Since he was 11 he founded a young musical group of an instrumental format, with his brother Odilio Urfé. It was known as “charanga with a french style” (charanga a la francesa), The name of the group was Orquesta Ideal and they alternated their presentations with their father´s danzon orchestra.

He collaborated professionally with his relatives throughout his entire life.  They founded the Charanga Nacional de Conciertos together, which was a revolution in the charanguero format of that epoch.

2014.  Melba Hernández Rodríguez del Rey dies.

She was born on July 28th, 1921 in the town of Cruces, once the province of Las Villas.

She had a degree in Law and in Social Sciences. She decided to fight against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista since the coup détat in Cuba in 1952.

 She was one of the heroines who took part in the actions done in Santiago de Cuba, the attack to Moncada Garrison. She was condemned to prison and when she came out of prison she played an important role in the printing and clandestine distribution of La Historia me absolverá (History will absolve me), Fidel´s speech denounce that was delivered in court after the events of July 26th, 1953.

Several tasks and responsabilities were asigned to her since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, all of them were successfully completed. She was even the ambassador of Cuba in Viet Nam Democratic Republic.
