Havana anniversaries. March 1st

1917. The magazine Correo Musical is founded in Havana.

It was published every two weeks as an organ of the National Conservatory of Music of Havana. Its director and owner was Hubert de Blanck. Its main objective was to establish relations among art professionals, extolling the existing culture and offering an easy and interesting reading for its readers.

1939.   Leo Brouwer is born in Havana.

Surrounded by a family of musicians, he began learning the guitar with his father. Later he went on to study with Isaac Nicola.

Throughout his life he has participated in the musicalization of dozens of films both in Cuba and abroad. As a teacher he has given master classes and conferences in important cultural centers around the world. For his contribution to Cuban and universal music he has received several national and international awards.  The development of a Cuban guitar school is largely due to his mastery.
