Pedro Morales triumphs in the Cuban chess tournament for handicapped.

Pedro Morales won this Saturday this Saturday the National Chess Championship for people with disabilities, held in the province of Las Tunas, in the central part of the island.

Prensa Latina reported that Morales, representing the Cuban Association of Phisically Handicapped People(ACLIFIM), won the title by beating in the last two matches the chess player Leonardo Lavigne, from the National Association for the Blind of Cuba, and Santos Home from the Cuban Association of Phisically Handicapped People(ACLIFIM) of Cienfuegos.

Morales achieved six points out of seven possible, showing great joy for the victory, as he said due to he had not played a tournament in person for a long time because of the Covid 19 and some other inconveniences, and thanked the collaboration of his colleagues and his brother Romaris.

In the tournament, that took place at the Palace of Chess GM Guillermo García of Santa Clara, the chess players from ANCI, Carlos Laudet and Pedro Leonard, got the second and the third position, respectively while the best female performance was for the athlete Dagney López from Las Tunas, belonging to the National Deaf Association of Cuba.

Likewise, it was acknowledged that for the first time this event´s outcomes will be reported to the world´s ranking, which will become a great incentive for this players that represent the three association for people with disabilities in Cuba who had not played an in – person tournament since 2020.
