A virtual platform for the voting process for the Cubadisco 2022 Awards will be launched in early March.

A Granma report highlights that all professionals in the Cuban music industry will be able to register in this system. The initiative, according to René Baños, president of the Academic Committee of the event, increases the number of people involved in the selection process of the pieces, registered in a dozen areas: heritage, academic, jazz (instrumental), song, fusion, urban music, audiovisual, general, singles, among others, which make up more than 30 categories.

Cubadisco will be held from May 14 to 23, and the contest closed its registration stage on January 31 with 312 works in competition. Now the nominees will be decided and then the prizes will be awarded.

Baños explained that for a month, those associated with the music sector, specialists associated with record production, music, audiovisual and dissemination, will rate the works, in order to define the official candidates for the awards.

With 25 years of history, Cubadisco is an award that distinguishes the technical and artistic quality of the works, in addition to the curatorship, impact on the public or the culture of Cuba and its originality.

Last year it was held virtually due to the impact of Covid-19 in the Greater Antilles. For this year, the details of its organization have yet to be unveiled.

As in previous editions, the International Award will be granted to phonograms by foreign authors and performers that reflect, in a creative way, the most authentic musical values, in correspondence with the aesthetic assumptions of Cubadisco.

The organizing committee of the long-awaited event will award several collateral prizes and the long-awaited audience award, to be announced at the ceremony organized in the context of the Cubadisco 2022 International Fair.
