The process of admission to the Higher Education for the course 2020 has been extended due to the epidemiological situation caused by COVID-19, that is the reason why the tests will start next Tuesday March 1st with Math.

René Sánchez Díaz, director of the Admission and Job of the Ministry of Higher Education explained in a Press Conference that the Spanish test will be on March 4th, next Friday, while History of Cuba will be on Tuesday 8th.

There will be only one call, on April 4th, 6th and 8th, keeping the same order of the subjects. An especial call will be done for those students that could not come to the first call, with a very acceptable reason.

He underlined «Test are ready now and we hope the process is done successfully».

This year 100 022 places are being offered, more than 9 000 regarding the previous year, in which there was a significant increase of possibilities. 

« This means there are more offers to candidates for university studies. Everyone in the process of admission, this academic year, has a place guaranteed, numerically speaking. Although there can be a student that could not get the specialty wanted, it depends on the marks which is determined by the place in the table top »

« This way the country is showing its social vocation, guaranteeing the access to University, even in a very complex economic situation

Sánchez Díaz explained that 38 745 are university courses and 12 929 for Higher Technical Schools (known as short cycle ones).

There are 43 248 places for the Encounters Course and 5 100 for the Distance Education

The leader emphasized that there will be two university admission processes this year and the reason is the extension of the academic year due to the Covid- 19 pandemic. The students having the tests now will start their classes almost immediately, on April 18th, 2022.   

He stated « Now the academic year of the Higher Education coincides with the fiscal year, unlike the one of General Education»

Then, next November, another admission process will be done thinking on 2023 all candidates who have finished Upper Secondary Education can apply.

In the case of the pre-university students, the candidates who start 12th grade  in March 2022  can apply. 

He said «This admission process will be the same as the current one. There will be tests of Mathematics, Spanish and History of Cuba for the Daytime Course, as an instrument to organize the process of giving the studies and the programs of Higher short cycle Educational Level».

«Likewise, it is not mandatory to pass the test with a 60 points mark to have a place».

He explained that there is an established order to give the studies, it stars by the ones who pass the entry tests with a minimum of 60 points in all the ways. There will be a second offering for the ones who did not pass the tests.

The third process will be for those pre- university students who did not go to the tests in the year of their graduation and the last one is done for those who finished technical Schools, Facultad Obrero Campesina, as well as pre- university students from previous courses.
