A space to learn different Cuban dances is opened.
Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba (LADC), an internationally known company, has now a new building in the capital, besides its old seat, to extend the company´s social and educational work.
Lizt Alfonso, the director, master and coreographer said she accepted the challenge as it was a request made by the eminent historian of La Habana Eusebio Leal, who died in 2020 and did not admit a denial as an answer and who supported her personally and her company for three decades.
She says that the Historian´s Office paved the way of Leal´s dream of this building in the popular avenue Malecon, some meters from Galiano street, where the Asociación del Automóvil y la Aeronáutica, the Asociación Cubana de las Naciones Unidas and the Company Irene Rodríguez, among others, once were.
As the Master said : the building which is now known as MaleconART 255 takes in a local development project focused in offering “more art, more ways, more spaces” , in being a center for everyone and for the well-being of everyone, as Jose Marti taught us.
Young artists developed in LADC and other historic professors of the Company will use the three halls of the institution to develop ballet workshops, flamenco, popular Cuban and afro- Cuban dances, as well as urban dances.
Alonso states in the opening session of this place, also known as LADC+, that material resources are not much now but the project counts with the dream, the wish, the devoted work, the will, and the good energy of all involved.
Thank you Leal for thinking on us, she said with tears in her eyes caused by the pain of her friend´s death, Doctor in Historical Sciences and Master in Archeological Sciences who had work hard to safeguard the history and the spaces of the capital of Cuba.
Lorena Flores, dancer at LADC and one of the young people responsible for the promotion of the work at MaleconART 255, together with her colleague Claudia Fernández confirmed Prensa Latina that the registrations for the workshops will be opened since February 28th and students from five to adults, with no limit of age, will be accepted.
Lessons will start on March 7th and in the future the building will help in the development of workshops about theater, literature, fashion, and other events related to arts.
LADC was declared the official seat of the Escuela de Flamenco de Andalucía (EFA) in Cuba in 2020, although the Company develops the so called Fusion style, which combines elements of flamenco, ballet, contemporary dance, folklore and different popular dances.
Several world prizes have recognized the work of the entity, interested in reusing the essence of the best of the dancing tradition in the Island of Cuba.
