Havana anniversaries February 24th.

1912 René Portocarrero is born in the neighborhood El Cerro, in Havana.

He devoted more than 7seventy years of his life to plastic arts. His work was an exceptional one and he became a symbol of Cuba and his influence as a muralist can be seen at the Hotel Habana Libre and in the glasses of the Restaurant “Las Ruinas” in Parque Lenin, among other places. It is an outstanding one the ceramic mural done in a hall of Palacio de la Revolución.

He died on April 7th, 1985 , in Havana.

1926.    Rafaela Chacón Nardi is born in Havana.

Professor, Pedagogue and Poet, that through all her life created an inspirational educational and literary work in verse as well as in prose. She also taught and many children grew up listening to her teaching, she also joined communitarian culture. She collaborated with several publications and her poems have been translated into diverse languages and can be seen in anthologies. When talking about her life and creative work she said that she liked to keep her eyes open to everything that has incited her because life is poetry and is a task for the poet to find it in the world and express it. She also said:“ I like that image of life as a travel to a dream with eyes opened wide in the sense that the artist should be receptive  to everything that  is around”.

She died at the age of 75, on March 11th , 2001 in Havana.
