Havana anniversaries. February 22nd.

 

1868.   The Doctor in Medicine and Surgery, Joaquín García- Lebredo y Lladó gets a degree in Medicine.

He was a member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Médicas, Físicas y Naturales of La Habana as a doctor and professor and a correspondent member of the New York society of Medicine, United States.

He was an outstanding studious of Histology. He presented a work tittled "Liver disorders in yellow fever ", it brought him the proposal to be a correspondent of the Biology Association of Paris.

He was a Doctor in Medicine in the Military Hospital in La Habana and collaborated with several Cuban scientific newspapers and magazines and we can mention El Genio Científico, the Revista Médica de la Isla de Cuba y la Crónica Médico - Quirúrgica de La Habana.

He was born in the city of Matanzas on August 18th de, 1833. He died in La Habana on November 26th, 1889.

 

1976.   Dulce María Escalona dies in Havana.

She was born in the city of Holguín, once the province of Oriente, on August 15th,1901. She was a witness and lived her live within the revolution process.

She devoted her life to the education of the Cuban people. She was a remarkable vanguard pedagogue in the XX century, and focused her talent and dedication to the study of the education and society problems.

At the triumph of the revolution in 1959, she restarts her work in the education field. She had several responsabilities such as: Provincial Director of Education in La Habana, and Director of Education in the Faculty of Humanities in the Universidad de La Habana. She was also the Director and founder of the Higher Pedagogical Institute Enrique José Varona, in charge of developing teachers. 

She died in La Habana on February 22nd , 1976.
