Cuba announces activities in commemoration of Women’s Day.

The Day for the International Women´s Day to be celebrated from February 24th to March 15, will include meeting with women from different sectors of the society, announced today the organizing committee.

The General Secretary of the Cuban Women´s Federation(FMC), Teresa Amarelle, explained that on March 8th a Twit will take place with the hashtags #DiaInternacionaldelaMujer and #Mujeresconderecho.

The Day will include book launching, sports marathons, admission events to the organization, a Day dedicated to the elders and another Day dedicated to work carried out in vulnerable communities, among others.

These activities will function as courts to denounce the economic, political and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, said the director.

At a press conference at the organization´s headquarters, Amarelle said that the event will be dedicated to distinguished women of the Revolution and to the centenary of the University Student Federation.

She added that the event commemorates the first anniversary of the entry into force of the National Program for the Advancement of Women, whose impact will be analyzed in a workshop with organizations and activists.

Regarding the achievements of the FMC, the official commented that more than 36 000 women have participated in the program, thousand people attended training programs at the Women and Family Guidance Centers last year, 82 percent of them young people.

She also spoke about the implementation of the Integral Strategy for the Prevention and Confrontation of Gender Violence in the family scenario and acknowledged that there are still weaknesses in the operation of the FMC in blocks and communities.

In relation to the process of popular consultation of the new Family Code, Amarelle highlighted its principle of equality, plurality and recognition of the rights of men and women.

The official stressed that all social networks and platforms of the organization, the magazine Muchacha and the Publishing House of Women, are available to citizens for questions and opinions on the law project.
