Havana anniversaries February 21st.

1996.    Isolina Carrillo dies in Havana.

She was born on December 9th, 1907, in Havana.

She was considered a myth among the bolero in Latin America and other places in the world. She had a method to compose, she said that first she found the melody and later the lyrics which suggested the tittle. She was the first in singing jingles in Cuba, she was the first to put music in a text of an advertising company in Cuba.

She was an accompanying pianist and a repertoirist in the Instituto Cubano de la Radio y la Televisión.

 

 

2000.   The sculptor Jilma Madera dies in Havana.

She was born in Pinar del Rrio on September 18th, 1915. Her name in Easter language means “wild flower”. She was an outstanding sculptor who made works such as the bust of José Martí that is located in Pico Real del Turquino, the highest mountain in Cuba and the Monument El Cristo de La Habana that is in Casablanca, on one side of Habana Bay. It is a 20 meters high sculpture, that weighs 320 tons and has 67 pieces.
