Havana Anniversaries. February 18th.

1968: In the Ernesto Che Guevara hall of the Casa de las Américas, the young troubadours Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés and Noel Nicola Nicola, offered a concert in response to the request made by the management of that prestigious institution, which was directed by the outstanding revolutionary fighter and leader Haydée Santamaría.

Pablo Milanés was the only one who had a certain recognizable trajectory, for having integrated a couple of vocal groups and having some very celebrated songs in the musical environment. Noel Nicola, son of Isaac Nicola --the most prestigious guitar master in Cuba--, was self-taught. Silvio Rodríguez had just come out of military service.

Silvio commented years later: "No one should be fooled: we were not very important; just a few young authors who appeared among more or less resounding contradictions.

And he added: "We still had a lot to do, we didn't know how much, but we felt it. Being invited to sing at Casa de las Américas was a sign that the future could be better than it seemed".

This concert served as a forerunner to what would later become the Nueva Trova Movement in the country.
