Inaugurated in Havana first ATM with touchscreen.

Four new ATM with touchscreens were inaugurated today at the Banco Metropolitano´s branch #308 in Old Havana, in the capital.

The equipments were installed at Obispo street #257 and are the result of a donation made to Cuba.

Olga María Vale Marrero, director of ATM, explained to the ACN, that the touchscreen of this equipment will substitute the keyboard placed on the side in order to select the operations.

The keypad to insert the PIN code and the amount will remain in the same place in these ATM.

Vale Marrero indicated that this Bank was chosen because of having a 24- hours high surveillance through physical and digital surveillance systems.

With the substitution of the prior equipment, the branch located on San Francisco de Paula, in the municipality of San Miguel del Padrón will be benefited, pointed out Yelegny Fernández Castro, general director of Electronic Banking.

Of the existents ATMs of this neighborhood, one of them is broken and the other did not cover the needs due to the amount of inhabitants using it every day.   

She stated that this a vulnerable community in regard with the amount of ATM placed in the area, for there is no enough availability of this ATM service in the closest areas.

With this exchange, the service will be significantly improved in Jaimanitas, in Playa and in the municipality of Regla though the use of pieces of one of the ATM from the San Francisco de Paula branch.

Both authorities of the Banco Metropolitano encouraged the inhabitants of the area to make a correct use of the new gear, highly demanded by the people, which is the result of some countries´ cooperation with the Greater of the Antilles.

There are 521 ATM in Havana, 125 of them with an obsolete technology that are working thanks to the technician´s inventive for there are no spare pieces for them in the country.
