Havana anniversaries. February 17.

1909.    Felix Pita Rodriguez was born in the town of Bejucal, which was then part of the province of Havana.

He attended primary school in the public school of his native town and between 1926 and 1927 he traveled through Mexico and Venezuela, motivated by a thirst for adventure.  He was a journalist, literary critic, translator and writer for radio and television. He collaborated in the main publications in which avant-gardism was expressed in Cuba.

In 1937, together with Juan Marinello, Alejo Carpentier and Nicolás Guillén, he was part of the Cuban delegation to the II Congress of Intellectuals for the Defense of Culture that took place in Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona and Paris in the middle of the Spanish Civil War.

After 1959 he carried out, until his death, an outstanding work in the national literary life. He was Vice President of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, UNEAC and President of its Literature Section. He was among the members of the jury of the main national and international contests organized in Cuba, such as the Casa de las Americas Prize and the one sponsored by UNEAC.
