Not a few countries celebrate the date and enjoy the honeys of Valentine´s Day. Cuba, that lives hard times, although also blissful due to the undeniable control over the virus, does not understand of deceit. Much less when in February new loves are born, or rather, new ways of making it bloom.

The month chosen to celebrate love welcome a political process that seeks equality, inclusion and non-discrimination through the popular consultation of the new Family Code, a document that is looks a lot like happiness.

It is pleasant to feel accepted, to be contemplated without considerations, that the scrutiny and attitudes caress instead of harassing, but, what happens when it is not so due to personal choices because of the diverse faces with which we are presented with love? Or when the mud of life that provides us fullness differs to the so-called traditional families?

In the face of diversity, authentic and real, it is necessary, if we want to be fair, update what has already been instituted. In the twenty-first century, we are still suffering from prejudice and dogmatism. There are people, who wanting to share a life with someone, chose the lie to hide a feeling that would be reproached, that renounced the blissful of summoning love, in order to evade the exclusion, even of their relatives. The lordship of every home should and must be love.

Enough of absurd misadventures! Of sufferings for the ill-regarded, by the way, by those who think they own a truth and pride that does not belong to them.   

It is necessary to vanish, in order to make a better society, the archaisms of a stagnant thought. Haven´t we been witnesses of people that fade in front of a son or a daughter, a brother or parents themselves, due to misjudgments when assimilating their ways of expressing love? 

It cannot be erased in a split second centuries of prejudices and damages that hurt a different expression of love. But we cannot stand still, actions must be taken to change this reality. Love, that agitates the senses, accept no barriers. No more living in the shadows, split by the strike of those who do not accept diversity. A feeling like this, capable of changing the world, wants no restrictions.

Love must shine to the daylight without more demands than the ones set by the heart that is living the feeling-from whom it comes and for whom it is intended.

This is what the new Family Code embraces, among other issues; a document, that far from causing damage, sums up, behold, respect, accept, gain, expand and dignify the human being. What is it if not a guardian legacy of love?
