The University of Havana(UH) inaugurated a Digital Campus at the Faculty of Math and Computing Science, sponsored by the Francophone Universities Agency.

Dr. Miriam Nicardo García, head of the University of Havana, Dr. Saulo Neiva, Director of the Agencia Universitaria de la Francofonía for the Caribbean region, Abdel Sijaddine, regional director of Instituto de Investigaciones, attended to the opening ceremony of this high technology hall, accompanied by some directives of the UH, teachers and members of the Embassy of France.

Dr. Saulo Neiva, head of the University Agency for the Francophonie for the Caribbean region expressed: ¨It is an enormous placer for the University Agency for the Francophonie to open the first digital campus in Cuba, the second will be inaugurated in the province of Santa Clara. This space is part of a worldwide network linking more than 60 digital campuses. Cuba will be the only country with two devices of this kind in the territory. We will work to connect alliances of Scientific Francophonie, which are in permanent evolution and transformation and whose objective is to contribute for the universities to have the role they deserve in the local development of the region¨.

The digital campus will also be the opportunity for designing work strategies among students and professionals that could be shared with other countries.

During the opening the new virtual reality technology called Oculus was delivered to the UH with pedagogical aims.

Attendees to the event shared about scientific projects and the multidisciplinary effort of the UH during the Covid-19 outbreak was acknowledged. The expectations of collaboration between the Francophone Universities and the UH were also shared.
