Arkady Dvorkovich, president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE, for its acronym in French), arrived this Tuesday in Havana for a short working visit, whose program will include meetings with directors of the sport and tours of sites of interest in the city.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received Dvorkovich, who is also president of the Skolkovo Foundation of Russia, at the Palace of the Revolution on Tuesday.

Dvorkovich has headed the maximum world chess entity since 2018 and arrived for the first time in the Greater Antilles, accompanied by several members of his work team, including Latvian and Fide vice president Dana Reizniece-Ozola, and Moldovan Viktor Bologan, executive director of the organization.

The visitors were received at the Jose Marti International Airport by the director of International Relations of Inder, Gisleidis Sosa, and the president of the Cuban Chess Federation, Carlos Rivero, who welcomed them to the land of Jose Raul Capablanca.

"We are happy to be here. We have many ideas for joint projects and we come to learn from Cuba, how they do things with chess to achieve the results they have", said Dvorkovich, who after his two-day stay in the Island will visit Mexico, to participate in the activities of the Ibero-American Chess Championship".

As a preview, the FIDE directors assured that they will be interested in talking about projects with social chess, teaching with senior adults and the initiation in this sport of young children.
