Anteo is already in Havana

Piar's one-man show was born in Argentina, because according to the author, it was very common that, during his stay in those lands, the Argentines asked him what the Cuban is like. "And I gave myself the task of making a show that would talk about our idiosyncrasy," he stressed.

"I am a fan of our cultural heritage. Cuba is an island that has given great fruits such as Benny Moré, Bola de Nieve, Los Zafiros and Irakere, whom I include in the soundtrack," said Alejandro Piar.

Why Anteo in Havana?

"Anteo is a mythological character. He had roots growing out of his feet that allowed him to live, even if he was wounded and killed. However, Hercules puts an end to him once he lifts him in weight and does not allow his roots to touch the earth". In this way, the author establishes a symbiosis between the mythological character and his staging of Anteo in Havana, whose message is that no matter if you live abroad, your roots will never be forgotten.

In that sense, Alejandro Piar stated: "Anteo is a beggar who goes through the streets and talks about how we Cubans react. In addition, he delves into universal themes such as family, happiness, among others".

He also explains that the play may fall into certain clichés, but at the same time, it breaks with certain stereotypes such as a homosexual poet who is apparently weak, the handsome guy and the dancer who cries like a cupcake.

He added that, along these lines, changes had to be made in relation to the play presented in Argentina because here, with just a phrase from the Yoruba religion, people already know the subject being addressed, while the original did not fall into didacticism to explain the idiosyncrasy of Cubans.

The one-hour play will be on stage on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 pm and Sundays at 5:00 pm.
