1970.    The Centro Habana Pediatric Hospital is officially inaugurated, located in the building formerly occupied by the historic Las Ánimas Hospital.

It is a health care institution located in the Centro Habana municipality. It is the only one of its kind, since it performs renal transplants and is a National Reference Center for Pediatric Nephrology and leads the Pediatric Nephrology Network at the national level for the study and follow-up of diseases.

This teaching and health care institution provides assistance in different specialties, including surgery, related to pediatrics, with a high prestige within the Cuban health system. It has more than 260 beds and its own requirements for the care of children under 18 years of age, distributed in 9 specialties.

2015. Luís Báez Hernández died in Havana.

He was a prestigious Cuban journalist and writer. He participated after the triumph of the Revolution in important historical events. He was the author of several books where his journalistic work is recorded.

He was among the founders of the Union of Cuban Journalists, the newspaper Granma and the magazine Bohemia, the magazine Cuba Internacional and the Prensa Latina Agency.He accompanied Commander in Chief Fidel Castro in most of his trips abroad. For his dedication and love for his work he received several decorations and awards.
