Havana anniversaries. February 6, 1932.

1932.  Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán is born in the Lawton neighborhood of Havana.

He was one of the 82 expedition members of the Granma Yacht that, led by Fidel Castro, left for Cuba from the Mexican port of Tuxpan. In the course of a short time he distinguished himself as a fierce combatant. For his merits he received the rank of Lieutenant, then Captain and in April 1958, Commander. For his achievements as a combatant he was known by the people as "The Lord of the Vanguard". After the victory of January 1959, he also distinguished himself as a beloved revolutionary leader. His physical disappearance took place on October 28, 1959 when the small plane in which he was traveling from Camagüey to Havana fell into the sea.

 

1958.    The corpse of the young revolutionary Gerardo Abreu Fontán was found on land near the then Palace of Justice in Havana.

He was born in Santa Clara, on September 24, 1931, in the bosom of a working class family of scarce economic resources. He distinguished himself in the course of his life for his cheerful character and his inclination to the performing arts. He was a member of the 26th of July Movement. He led the Movement's Youth Brigades until he was imprisoned. He was tortured and murdered by forces of the Batista dictatorship when he was only 26 years old.
