
The Cinemateca de Cuba announces that classic films will be exhibited at its facilities.
According to the digital site Cubacine, the film series will be inaugurated with the film Grand Hotel (1932), by Edmund Goulding, which had an exceptional cast with the presence of Greta Garbo, who became a symbol of the cinematography of the time.
The day includes previous screening of editions of the ICAIC Latin American newsreel and the exhibition of the film The 400 Blows (1959) with which director François Truffaut debuted on the seventh art, thus becoming a symbol of French cinema and the first work of the series dedicated to hi8s character Antoine Doinel.
The feature film that Marcel Carné offered as a tribute to the theater: The Children of Paradise (1945) also occupied the big screen to reflect on the theme of the artist’s freedom against oppression, taking as context the turbulent and the strict surveillance of the German sensors.
Viewers will enjoy Cleopatra, played by Claudette Colbert in a film that tells the story of the famous Queen of Egypt, which would be filmed again in 1963 by Joseph L Mankiewicz with Elizabeth Taylor in the lead role.
The film tour concludes with the film West Side Story, made in 1961 by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins as an adaptation of the Broadway musical inspired by Romeo and Juliet, which swept the Oscars with Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Sound, Editing, Cinematography, Art Direction and Color Customes.
The screenings of the above films are scheduled from February 2 until February 6 at the capital´s 23 y 12 movie theater.
