2003.  Commander in Chief Fidel Castro delivers a speech at the closing of the International Conference for the Balance of the World, held in honor of the 150th anniversary of the birth of José Martí, our National Hero.

In one part of his speech, Fidel pointed out, referring to the transcendence of Martí's life and work and its relevance today: "Beyond Cuba, what did the world receive from him? An exceptional example of a creator and humanist worthy of being remembered throughout the centuries".

"By whom and why? For the same people who are fighting today and those who will fight tomorrow for the same dreams and hopes to save the world, and because it is by chance that today humanity perceives and becomes aware of the risks that he foresaw and warned of with his profound vision and his brilliant talent".
