Palomas Project develops social work in neighborhoods in Old Havana.

They are part of the Proyecto Mujeres sobrevivientes a dos pandemias: Covid 19 y desilguadades de género (Surviving women of two pandemics: Covid-19 and gender inequalities).

Palomas Project, Producer House of audiovisuals for social activism, developed meetings in two communities as part of the initiative Surviving Women of two pandemics: Covid-19 and gender inequalities.

The first of the encounters, so called A day after the pandemic, took place at Galería Taller Gorría, located in the neighborhood of San Isidro, to which there were invited women that have survived the Covid -19 pandemic, decision-makers, academics, journalists, project managers and social activists.

Lizette Vila, founder and head of the Palomas Project, stated that this meeting is part of the project articulately developed with the Felix Valera Center, the non-governmental organization CARE, the Embassy of Canada in Cuba, COSUDE (Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation) and the Cuban Institute of Art and Film Industries (ICAIC). ¨ This is an encounter from the resilience basis that the Palomas Project has promoted for many years, that is more than resistance but hope, strength, willing and social politic support¨, she insisted.

This meeting was accompanied by the exhibition Estudio de las Sombras (Study of the Shadows) of the young visual artist Yari Delgado that incorporates works as Del otro lado(From the other side of), Atrapando el atardecer(Catching the Sunset), Ira(Rage), Distanciamiento (Distancing), Convivencia (Cohabitation), Aferro al refugio (Hold on to the shelter), El que lleva luz( The light carrier) and Silencio ( Silence) among others which attendants to the meeting interacted with.

It turned out a completely new experience that people were able to express what the images were transmitting to them, stated the young artist.

Estudio de las Sombras (Study of the Shadows) deals with the Palomas Project basis, as with Carl Jung and its interpretation of Shadows, shadows that everybody have, anywhere, that display of individualities, willingness and desires, the forgiveness not given at a certain point, shame and its association to certain situations of inequities and violence¨, pointed out Lisette Vila.

The second one was hold at the San Egidio community, also in Old Havana, with elder women survivors of the pandemic and gender inequalities, project managers and social activists.

Sergio Cabrera, General Coordinator of the Palomas Project explained that Suriviving Women to two pandemics includes the presentation next months of the documentary of the same title, in which stories from a group of protagonists will be told from the resilience point of view, stories of women that have been able to overcome these harsh moments for more than two years of pandemic.

We want it to be presented on March, due to March must not be visualized only on the 8th, but every single day within the month, taking into account that this important date was created as a space for making demands and requests, not only flowers; a date that commemorates the fight for women rights and moral compensations, declared Vila.
