Cuba stands out in anti-Covid vaccination in children.

The decision of vaccinating children over 2 years of age against Covid-19 placed Cuba in the vanguard of the immunization against Covid-19, affirmed María Eugenia Toledo, main researcher of the clinical trials of Soberana 02.

During her intervention in the radio-television broadcasting Mesa Redonda the specialist highlighted that this product, designed by the Finlay Institute of Vaccines, in charge of the production of Soberana 01 and Soberana Plus as well, was designed since the beginning for being used in children.

This determination is endorsed by years of history and prestige in the vaccines development for children, she stated.

Toledo explained that the impact of the vaccination campaign in children from 2 to 18 years of age nationwide is being evaluated.

In total, 1.6 million children have been vaccinated with two doses of Soberana 02 plus a dose of Soberana Plus in a 28 days-time lapse.

In total, only 367 subject reported adverse events and only two reported serious, but local and related to the vaccination itself.

No myocarditis or pericarditis was observed in any of the subjects. In addition, no infant’s death has been reported after the immunization process in Cuba, she detailed.

Toledo also highlighted the emergency use clearance of Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus approved for infant´s use in Iran, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

In regard with the rest of the trials and studies linked to these vaccines and vaccine candidate Soberana 01, Toledo explained that the impact of the booster dose with the three candidates, their effectiveness in the workers of the Health sector and interventions performed with them in the province of Cienfuegos is being assessed.

When referring to the scientific articles published she indicated that they can be consulted in magazines such as Chemical Biology, The Lancet Regional Health-Americas and some preprint, submitted to magazines arbitrated as MedRxiv.
