GOLDSMITH'S HOUSE

The House-Museum of Goldsmiths, located at 113 Obispo Street in Old Havana, evokes Havana's goldsmith tradition. This museum was created on May 18, 1996. A vast collection of pieces dedicated to satisfy multiple needs of human beings is exhibited in this facility. Among the most significant are those made by the Misa Besada brothers, Spanish silversmiths based in Havana, where they developed all their work since the early 19th century.

Among the oldest exhibits are 16th century coins and other objects from the 18th century. The institution has several rooms organized according to the utility of the pieces.  One of the most important is the Havana silverware room, located on the first floor of the building, which gathers the most valuable pieces made in the Cuban capital. It exhibits desktop pieces, decorations and medals, jewelry, toilet and dining room utensils, as well as those donated by the descendants of the Marquises of Aguas Claras, the Misa brothers and other renowned Havana silversmiths. Another relevant room is that of jewelry and watches, where table and pocket watches from France, Great Britain, Switzerland and other countries are displayed.
