Office of the Historian of Havana prioritizes investments in housing to benefit vulnerable people in the neighborhoods
The Office of the Historian of the City, beyond the actions of restoration of the historic center and the urban and touristic management of the area, has among its main priorities to accelerate investments on the issue of housing, for the clear benefit of vulnerable community in this area.
In statements to the Cuban News Agency (Agencia Cubana de Noticias, ACN), its deputy director, Perla Rosales, highlighted the efforts to accomplish the plan to build 90 houses for vulnerable families per year, but acknowledged that the work realized in 2020 and 2021 has been affected by the crisis generated by the pandemic, especially in the tourism sector.
She assured that to celebrate the 502nd anniversary of the founding of the city, new and comfortable apartments will be handed over to several residents, after the total restoration of a building in the area, work that comes to support the constructive transformations in vulnerable settlements of the capital.
According to Rosales, these investments are possible thanks to the management of the irreplaceable Eusebio Leal, for whom the office has an international credit to build 360 buildings, hence the import of resources are guaranteed, except for the cement, whose production has been very depressed in the national industry.
Also for the 502 anniversary of the city´s foundation an office for the attention of the people will be inaugurated in the neighborhood of Belén.
It will not be a place to receive complaints, for which the Office of the Historian has other channels available, but it will become a new space for approaching the residents, such as elderly people living alone and single mothers; a place where answers will be prompt and help will be given in the shortest possible time, as the Cuban Government have indicated on several occasions, said the deputy director.
Among the projections for the new year is the delivery of 60 homes to mothers with three or more children, I support of the Program for Attention to Demographic Dynamics, which is being implemented in the country.
In this sense, she explained, a survey is being made in the country to learn about the number of women in this condition in the locality, while the Investment Directorate in involved in the search for a property that meets the needs of this population group for its subsequent restoration.
Rosales alluded to the harmonic integration of tourism with the social management of the Office, ¨it is interesting when our collaborators visit the works and are pleasantly surprised to see the repercussion in the community, that is what we want to happen with tourists visiting the historical center¨.
The Office of the Historian of Havana, which has played such an important role in the rescue of the capital and its historical memory, successfully conducts the rehabilitation of heritage and develops a careful and dedicated social work in favor of the resident population.
