New measures to mitigate the deficit of the public transportation in Havana are unveiled

The General Directorate of Transportation in Havana(DGTH) informed at the meeting of the Temporary Working Group the approval of new measures with the purpose of reducing the deficit of this public service in the capital.

In statements to Tribuna de la Habana it was informed that, Leandro Méndez Peña, director of DGTH stated that this week transport will be reinforced with the incorporation of 40 buses to the existing fleet at the points of high concentration of people during the peak moments in the morning and in the afternoon. He also announced that about 50 gazelles (a minibus working as a taxi) which were destined to the Cvid-19 confrontation, will be reincorporated to the service in the next few days.

He commented that a greater number of passengers will be allow to be picked up on buses, thus increasing the transportation capacity that was previously restricted due to the effects of the pandemic. In this sense, the director pointed out that the citizens will be required to strictly use the face masks and to comply with the sanitary measures while every transportation mean will also be disinfected.

In order to deconcentrate the students´ influx during peak hours, the mobility of schedules will be extended to other Higher Education centers, an initiative that is already being applied at José Antonio Hechevarría Technological University of Havana.

For his part, the Governor of Havana, Reinaldo García Zapata, called to speed up the coordination with companies and other entities for the use of their means of transportation once they have complied with the transportation of their personnel.

We will constantly follow up these measures to guarantee their effectiveness and we will continue to look for alternatives to improve this vital service for the people in the midst of a very complex economic situation.

In this sense, the director of DGTH also stated the economic restrictions faced by the country which prevent the acquisition of spear parts and new transportation means.

Then the First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Havana, Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, denied rumors that were circulating at that time in the social networks about alleged disturbances in the Juanelo community, in the municipality of San Miguel del Padrón.

Moments later, the press in the capital showed during a tour realized in this area and some other areas of this municipality the tranquility that existed in those places.

Torres Iríbar referred to the false information that the enemies of the Revolution spread about supposed mobilizations against the Revolution and called to be alert to counteract these attempts of subversion.

Today has been a calm and beautiful day in Havana, the streets were flooded with children and teenagers in their uniforms, happy to return to their schools and meet their classmates and professors.

That is the atmosphere we saw today at Maceo Grajales Urban High School located at the community El Palenque in the municipality of La Lisa, where the act of the school year restarting was celebrated; that is the work of Revolution and we will always be ready to defend it.

Regarding the epidemiological situation, the tendency to decrease the number of positive cases of Covid-19 as well as the number of suspected, seriously and critically ill patients has been confirmed.

The Provincial Health official also reviewed the protocols established for the arrivals of travelers on Monday and from November 15th, which have already been disclosed by the media.
