Guanabacoa will host the African Roots Festival Wemilere

The seventieth edition of de African Roots Festival Wemilere 2021 will take place in the municipality of Guanabacoa from November 16 to 19 as part of the activities developed for the 502nd anniversary of Havana.

The program of the event includes several activities as exhibitions ‘inaugurations, book launching and dance and folkloric music workshops.

Among the most relevant activities stands out the Colloquium Presencia on November 16th and 17th at 9:00 a.m. and the presentation of food and drinks offered to the Yoruba Pantheon scheduled on November 18th at 100:00 a.m. at the Casa de la Cultura de Guanabacoa.

Wemilere´s actions will be spread to the communities of Villa de Pepe Antonio(Havana) due to a group of artists that will visit the La Jafa neighborhood, in Cantral 364 between Reglita and Final with an homage to Enrique Fernandez, religious leader of the place.   

In the case of the final day of the celebration, Casa de la Cultura Rita Montaner will host a Literary Forum dedicated to Fernando Ortiz.

This edition of Wemilere 2021 is dedicated to the 110 anniversary of Bola de Nieve (Cuban artist) and to highlight the African roots in Cuba.
