Havana will celebrate its 502 anniversary with joy and responsibility

The official activities will be held from November 1st to 16th, but starting this weekend, activities will be carried out in Havana´s Malecon and recreational and cultural centers will be re-opened.

The information was made known on Tuesday during the working session of the Temporary Working Group of the capital in which it was announced that on Monday 15th will resume the traditional tour around the Ceiba tree located in El Templete, the foundational site of the Villa San Cristóbal de la Habana.

The coordinator of Objectives and Programs of the Government of Havana, Tatiana Viera Hernández, said that at 9:00p.m. o´clock in the evening of the same day just with the sound of the Cañonazo, the lights representing the constellations of the Milky Way, installed two years ago on the occasion if the celebration of the 500 anniversary of the founding of Havana, will be turned on again on Galiano Street.

Havana´s birthday will also be the theme of the XIV Biennale of Plastic Arts, which will be inaugurated on November 12th and will last until April 2022.

Likewise, the online presentations of soloists and musical groups will continue and from November 15th to 30th at 3:00 o´clock in the afternoon, the Ministry of Culture´s YouTube channel will be dedicated to music inspired by our Wonder City.

But culture will also reach the neighborhoods from October with the presentation of the brigades of art instructors, members of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz, and other exponents of the Cuban Culture.

Sports will also have a prominent place in this day which will be demonstrated on November 19th when the Physical Culture and Sports Day will be commemorated in sports centers and other spaces in the communities.

Taking into account the notable decrease in the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 and the vaccination coverage, it was decided to reactivate the recreational activities in the Malecon.

From October 23rd, every Saturday, at 4:00p.m., a stretch of the artery near the José MARTÍ Anti-imperialist Tribune will be closed to traffic for the recreation of the Cuban families, which will be able to find gastronomic and cultural offers there, with the presentation of small and medium format groups.

As from this week, the opening of the Casa de la Música and other recreational and cultural centers was also authorized, with a limited capacity, in which compliance with the sanitary measures will be required.

Epidemiological update

Regarding the vaccination campaign, it was reported that more than 70% of the Havana citizens who could be vaccinated have already completed the vaccination schedule and the 95.7% of the expected universe has received at least one dose.

The incidence rate of Covid-19 continues to decrease in all the municipalities of Havana as well as the suggestive, suspicious and serious patients.
